Justin Beck, Chair
My name is Justin Beck I am a Hog and Grain producer located in Nova Scotia. It is here I farm with my Father and Mother raising superior quality hogs and grain. I have been involved with CYFF for the past 7 years. In the last 4 years I have held a director position for the Nova Scotia & NFLD region and this present year Chair of the Board. The value of the organization is to provide educational and networking experiences to young farmers. CYFF also trains young producers in areas of board governance, policy development, and government functions. It is for these reasons that I have devoted time and energy to grow the CYFF as it touches on key issues that are going to be pivotal to the agriculture industries success.
Ian Richardson, Past-President
My name is Ian Richardson. I am currently past chair and have served on the board for 7 years with the last 3 as the chair. I became part of the CYFF because I strongly believe that we as young farmers can do a lot more to improve people’s lives in the farming industry. Too often we feel alone and have nowhere to turn and CYFF is an important network for these times. I live in Cormack Newfoundland and milk 100 cows and farm about 500 acres with my wife Angie and daughter Mackenzie.
Heather Fulton, Nova Scotia-Newfoundland and Labrador Representative
Hi Young Farmers of Canada. My name is Heather Fulton and as of February 2011 I represent Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador on your CYFF Board. I chose to become a part of the CYFF board because I am keen to organize and promote the valuable programs that have provided me with the skills to become a better farm manager and rural leader.
I grew up on and continue to work on a small dairy farm in Stewiacke, Nova Scotia. Along with my parents I milk 50 head of Holsteins, raise heifers, and crop about 150 acres of land.
I know all too well the challenges and opportunities agriculture presents. I'm excited about the programs CYFF has in store and I look forward to representing you in the upcoming year.
Jonathan Stockall, New Brunswick & Prince Edward Island Representative
Hi my name is Jonathan Stockall from Fredericton, New Brunswick and I am the CYFF regional director for New Brunswick/Prince Edward Island. I decided to be apart of the CYFF Board of Directors because I believe in what the CYFF is doing. I also was able to get a lot out of CYFF and fully believe I can put more into our organization to help more young farmers the same way CYFF helped me.
I am a market gardener in the capital of New Brunswick, selling fresh fruits and vegetables and maple syrup all year round. I am a 4th generation farmer currently taking over my grandfather's farm.
Joe Dickenson, Ontario-Quebec Representative
Hi, I'm Joe Dickenson and I've been a proud member of the CYFF board since December 2008 as the representative for Ontario/Quebec. I joined the board because I saw a lot of different provincial groups starting up and I thought my experience at the provincial level could help, and because I thought it was important that we continue to connect and correspond with our provincial affiliates. I own a beef and cash crop farm in Oil Springs, Ontario and have some cows in my parents' dairy farm in Sarnia.
Brad Schiltroth, Manitoba-Saskatchewan, Northwest territories Representative
I would like to take a minute of your time and introduce myself to all of your looking at our CYFF website and thank you at this time for taking the time to look through it and get a better understanding of what we are all about. I am Bradley Schiltroth and I represent Saskatchewan, Manitoba and N.W.T. I currently farm in N.E Saskatchewan where we grow grains and oil seeds. I have been a member of the CYFF since about 2005 and also been an active member of the SYA. Its been an exciting seeing a provincial group come to life right before our eyes. It’s a very exciting group of young farm related people working together to show just how exciting the agriculture industry can be with the right attitude on the agriculture front. The CYFF consists of a community of like minded individuals that have a great love for agriculture and I am just glad I can be a part of it. wish all the best for the upcoming spring. Play Safe.
Kerry Froese, British Columbia Ontario-Quebec Representative
Hi, my name is Kerry Froese. This is my second year on the CYFF board representing BC/Alberta/Yukon. I am also the Vice-President of CYFF this year bringing my experience from being on a number of different boards and associations in BC.
After coming to a CYFF AGM in 2007 I went home to BC asking myself, "why doesn't BC have a young farmer organization?" I then went to my Agriculture Council to help start the BCYF where I am currently the President.
Since I am a broiler chicken farmer, I'm involved on the BC Chicken growers association, BC Poultry Association and the BC Agriculture Council.
Sounds like I'm busy, I know. The reason I'm so involved is because of my strong passion for agriculture and my three young kids at home. Farming is not my job, its what I am and I want agriculture in Canada to be strong for when my kids are ready to take over for me.
Cain Vangel, Member-at-Large
Hello, my name is Cain Vangel. This is my first year on the CYFF board as member at large. I have attended a few CYFF events and found them all very useful and inspiring, not only for the valuable information presented but by the calibre of other young farmers with their passion and enthusiasm for running successful farms all across Canada I feel this group offers fantastic opportunities to bring together young farmers in a way that benefits individuals and the agriculture industry as a whole. I am honoured to be on the board and want to contribute to the ongoing success and growth of the CYFF. I am a new farmer pretty much starting from scratch here in the Yukon. We have a small organic mixed farm with chickens and turkeys being our main products.
