The 2011 Canadian Young Farmers’ Forum Annual General Meeting was a resounding success and will be remembered as a turning point for the organization. The speaker line-up was superb, the participation of our members and invited guests was outstanding, and the hospitality was as to be expected when 110-leading young farmers from across North America come together.
The guest speakers were very well received, and rounded out a diverse perspective of opinions on international and domestic marketing through building and capitalizing on family relations. The 2011 event was also marked by a number of big operational achievements for the CYFF. A solid, structured strategic plan, constructed by the CYFF Board of Directors was ratified by the membership during a 2-hour consultation session. The core of the new CYFF strategic plan is better communications with and support for the provincial associations, so look for a strengthened working relationship between the national and provincial groups in the coming months.
The energy in the group was easy to feel, as is always the case at CYFF meetings, the real test becomes what to do with that energy when we return home to our farms and ranches. The question then becomes, do we have what it takes, do we have the desire to go home and make the changes that we conjure in our minds while we sit comfortably in the meeting chairs. I believe that those in attendance at the 2011 CYFF AGM do have what it takes, and do have the desire to rock this agriculture industry into the future. I look forward to seeing the change brought about by dynamic young farmers across the country and am pleased that their attendance at the CYFF meetings in Winnipeg may have had something to do with that.
Don’t hesitate to contact the CYFF for more details on operations, or what the CYFF can do for you on your farm or ranch.
